The U.S. is it free anymore???

I'm getting so tired of turning on the tv and everything I see is bad news...so what should I do turn it off?! Well I do that too but think about it...we need to see what the United States of America is coming to....less than 35 miles from me at Lake Altoona, GA people are now living in tents because they are unemployed! Couples, men and woman like you and me are living in tents with children that used to go to a school in a neighborhood because their Mom or Dad had a job, and now they don't!!

Is this the United States or is this a 3rd world country? Over 1.8 trillion dollars are being spent on nationalizing health care. In the next day or two a vote in the house will determine how bankrupt this country is going to be....think about it, we are going to bankrupt this nation with insurance that will be like Canada and England. I lived in England remember? If people had an important health issue there was a waiting list, it isn't free in the end! Why am I bringing this up? Because we will spend the money on this, 68% of the people surveyed do not want government to make their choices in life. Government wants to do this but they don't want to help our children live in homes, help their parents get a job, eliminate the recession with real jobs not just jobs that will help the highways or construction or make jobs that you have to go back to school!! That isn't creating thats doing it the way the President wants it done!

If we don't start praying for our nation and this man who we voted into that job because a bunch of people thought he was the second coming, then we are going to see this land disappear for the way we knew it! I may be standing on my soap box but I'm so angry at this that I just wanted to talk about it.

I have more experience in my little finger for jobs that I go and interview for and who gets them? Kids out of HS or kids in college or kids who just graduated college! What is happening! Do you want "children" to help you or do you want people who are in their prime? I don't get it anymore, I need help understanding that this country we came to from England back in June of 1968, this country that I call home....where is it....why are so many of our citizens leaving it to move to other countries?

"Lord, we need your help with our children, we need help with our land, we need your help with our President, we know you have a plan and we don't see it right now but Father if we don't cry out to You for our land then it will no longer be ours and Your ears will be silent....."

Happy July 4th with fabric!

July 4th fabric & vintage looks

I wanted to type a quick post on July 4th. There are so many things out there displaying the hoilday. The tacky looks, the flags hanging from the homes, the quilts that cover our beds and all the crazy items we carry to the picnics.

I wasn't sure how to approach this post since I hate wearing a "Martha Washington" costume or looking like my house is draped in massive amounts of crazy red, white and blue! So I found what I think are classic looks from the American past, and what I believe inspires us.

This is a stunning example of workmanship. I actually was surfing online and found this under July 4th, I have no history on it, yet I do know it is probably authentic and was probably pieced together in the late 1800's. Many items were done back then with fabric pieced so carefully to survive hundreds of years later. I just was very inspired by it. The piece screams patriotism!

I then went and found various ways to use fabric in a patriotic way, not necessarily displaying the "screaming at you July 4th", but in a way that you can tell, very patriotic.

So I may not have found the perfect July 4th look to wear and I have never made that perfect inspirational outfit either, but I did find items that inspire me. They will always be "Fashion News" in their own way. I'm sure if the pioneers ever saw our posts they would say, "Every item in our closet and on our beds are refashioned, we take fabric from everywhere and make treasures".

So Happy 4th of July for all of us whether we are Americans, Brits, from New Zealand, or Australia. We are all free and that is what the hoilday means. Have a wonderful day refashioning every look you see!

I also wanted all of us to remember that God is in complete control of our country and in these times of economic difficulties, HE IS IN CONTROL!!! It's been hard for me since I lost my job but I also have to believe the job Jesus wants me to have is there! So God Bless America and we need to continue to pray for this country!

Art in Quilting! A great way to make a treasure..

I have been quilting for a long time and I know its ART!! It doesn't have to be a landscape, a portrait, etc. If you design in art or in sewing, you are an artist. So I am listing a pattern for a Star Quilt..a perfect beginner quilting pattern..say that 3 times!!

Okay, when someone looks at a quilting pattern they usually say, "I CAN'T DO THAT!!" First you need to say, "Yes I can.." This pattern was done by me when I raised my youngest, a set of twins, back in '93 thru '97. I was an avid quilter. I would quilt from morning until night, well at least when the twins were asleep. I sold them and believe me, I never received enough for them.

For this quilt I made it as a crib blanket and I made a baby pillow. I am giving you a brief pattern so you can get a taste of what you need and then open the file for the rest.

You literally cut pieces of material from other pieces of material either used in a quilt or from sewing a dress, baby clothing, etc. I just thought this was great because it is perfect for July 4th..

To assemble it you will use a combination of half-square triangle unit squares & pieced sashing. Easy, easy! You'll need for the Large Star tips, 9 dark fabrics 3 x 9 each. For the small star tips, 16 dark 2 x 6. A light background of fabric 1 1/8 yd. For the dark sashing 3/8 yd. Red sashing 1/2 yd. You'll also need 2 2/3 yd of backing. A 48 x 48 piece of batting and 170" length of binding.

I'm going to layout the pattern in pictures and if you want a detailed pattern I am listing a file at the bottom of the page.This is another one of my eco-friendly ways of saving the world of discarded fabric!! Enjoy and don't be afraid of quilting anymore....

Life can be so hard....

I am having such a hard time with my children, the twins, they are now 15 and I cannot control them whatsoever. It's amazing how these children were so easy until they started HS and then they turned. I wrote to many of you on your blogs and asked for prayer for them. My Dad offered to give us a house on his ranch in Bandera, TX. Free rent, free overhead, etc. He is doing this because he feels God has told him to offer us this due to my lack of no job, no money and Mike's social security. Well my kids are not cooperating and told me on no uncertain terms, "we are not going"! Hummm....now from my knowing the Bible it says in Ephes 5 says "children obey your parents" doesn't it? Also if they don't submit to us how are they ever going to submit to God now or in the future? How are they going to submit to their husbands in the future? I am in tears trying to make them understand that we are their parents, we make the decisions.

I have given this over to the Lord over and over. I have asked the Holy Spirit to intervene and when I do, it does calm down. I have told them that no decision has been made to move until we go there to see the ranch. I told them they are a part of the family but if we want this and you guys don't, we have to make the decision. I believe in kids having a say, but I don't believe that whatever they say is what will happen. My husband came over to me and hugged me and told me he didn't want me to cry. I said "I will only do what God wants us to do, not my will but His, if it's wrong, there will be obstacles in the way" He said he could see that, but he has spoiled them so bad...but the Bible has been my refuge and a lot of praying. My girls can make friends anywhere but if God wants us to do something, nothing will stop it from happening! I want to share with all of you what God gave me in my daily:

"Come to Me with open hands and an open heart, ready to receive my abundant blessings. ( which is hard for my husband to do) I know your neediness. Your life-path has been difficult (to say the least), draining you of strength. Come to me with nurture. Let me fill you with My Presence: I in you, and you in Me" Isaiah 40:29-31

Praise God! ...."He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power....Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired. They will walk and not become weary." This is my prayer for my family and I ask that all of you keep me in your prayers for the battle that I am enduring right now with my girls and my husband. I so long for peace and I pray for that daily!

Living for God is what's important

I am totally amazed sometimes when the enemy strikes, and I have to remember that he is striking because God has something wonderful for me! I can smile at that right now but less than 30 min ago I was in tears. Lets see...my unemployment check is lost, I called them they say they mailed it and the post office hung up on me cause they say they don't have it anywhere, my husband and I are fighting over..MONEY..and a job, my health, due to stress is, for lack of a better word...good..and I feel like I just don't know where to turn!

So as I was crying out to the Lord..I asked Him in a rather demanding tone :).."Lord help me, help me reach out to You and show me what you want from me" Well the first thing was, give Mike to me, stop trying to change him, leave him in my hands. Second thing He gave me was to ask the Holy Spirit to intercede for me..and then I went right into the word and went to Romans 8:18 "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us" Well that brought a smile to my face..and then I went on to v. 26...and in the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.....v. 35 "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall TRIBULATION, or DISTRESS....or FAMINE......v. 37 "But in these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come,.....nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord"!
Praise GOD! Nothing can separate us! All the things in this day that has tried to break my spirit shall separate me from Jesus! Why is it that we concentrate on these things that the enemy tries to make us feel are so important? Sure I have no money to get food or gas, whats the worst thing that can happen? We have rice for a couple of days..I tried everything to find that check and believe me..no one can help, so that tells me God is trying to show me something..LEAN ON HIM!! Thats it in a nut shell..and it took all this to show me. Well Praise God..He will work it out as well as work out Mike and me. Keep me in your prayers but thank the Lord, He has shown me His grace and mercy in all that I do!
